Bruce County Public Library (BCPL) is inviting the community to join them for their Valentines for Seniors program and creating handmade Valentine's Day cards to be distributed to seniors in local care homes.

The program got underway on Monday, January 6 and runs to Friday, February 7 and participants can attend a scheduled staff-led program to create cards, drop into any of the BCPL 17 branches or the Bookmobile to use provided supplies, or pick up a take-home craft bag and make cards at home, bringing them back to the branch upon completion.

"This year's programs include a special PA Day event for kids ages 5 to 12, offering young creators the chance to make a difference while having fun with friends," read a recent media release from BCPL.

A staff-led Teen Cafe Valentines for Seniors event will be held at the Chesley branch on Thursday, Jan 23 from 4:30 to 6pm and from 10am to 2pm on Friday, January 31, PA Day events will be held at the Lion's Head, Mildmay, Teeswater, Tiverton, Tobermory, Cargill and Chesley branches.

Since its launch in 2022, the Valentines for Seniors program has become a cherished tradition and in 2024 delivered 1058 cards made by 680 participants to local seniors.

Program Coordinator Nancy Kuhl said the program is about more than just making cards. "It's about reminding our seniors that they're cared for and valued," she said. "Every card carries a heartfelt message of kindness that can brighten someone's day."
